Grafting Supplies

Most of the materials and supplies needed for grafting of tomatoes, eggplant, watermelon and other cucurbits are available at local hardware or garden supply stores.

  • Plastic straws or plastic coffee stir sticks – A variety of colors can assist as a form of plant identification. Do not use bamboo skewers or sticks, since they can become moldy in the healing chamber.
  • Latex exam gloves – should be tight fitting for good control.
  • Double-edged razor blades – snapped in half.
  • Wooden clothespins for holding plastic on healing chambers.
  • Black plastic – garden stores and greenhouse suppliers. Black plastic garbage bags can be used if size is adequate.

Some items can be purchased from laboratory supply outlets or from greenhouse suppliers locally or online:

Velcro tape – can also be purchased at most hardware store garden centers
